At The Healdsburg School, while we offer a rigorous academic program that emphasizes the proficiency in the building blocks of learning (reading, writing and mathematics), our teaching methodology goes far beyond a traditional 3R’s approach. Our thematic, integrated curriculum teaches fundamental concepts by involving children in exciting hands-on projects drawn from a broad range of disciplines, including science, history, literature, communication (both oral and written), mathematics and the arts. Our curriculum is carefully designed to insure that, year after year, your children are meeting and surpassing state and national standards while building a firm foundation of cultural and scientific knowledge that will hold them in good stead in high school, college and beyond.
In the spirit of seeking best practices, The Healdsburg School is pleased to announce that we are in the process of evaluating the International Baccaluareate Organization’s (IBO) Primary Years Programme and Middle Years Programme. The IBO is an internationally recognized curriculum designed to build critical thinking skills, teach problem solving through inquiry and exploration, and to help students think and act globally. In the process of developing our curriculum, we have discovered that the IB Programme appears to parallel our current curriculum and may enable us to strengthen our program by challenging our students to think more broadly and deeply about how they learn and how to evaluate what they learn in an increasingly interrelated world. To learn more, please go to www.ibo.org. We will continue to update this information as we move forward with our evaluation process.
